Erika Hewitt starts teaching at Barefoot on Sunday October 24

Please welcome our new teacher Erika Hewitt

Erika Hewitt has been studying Yoga since 2001, when she took up yoga to supplement long-distance running. She quickly found yoga to be uniquely healing and enlivening – a threshold for a new approach to physical and spiritual well-being. In her early years of intensive Yoga study, Erika was mentored by Martin Hunke, a Shadow Yoga instructor. She has also studied with Shandor Remete, Emma Balnaves, Donna Farhi, and Jill Miller. As Erika’s yoga practice eclipsed and then supplanted her running, she developed her own teaching style. Since 2004, she’s taught Yoga in many settings, from corporate offices to group backpacking trips to yoga studios -- most recently the Santa Barbara Yoga Center. Erika approaches yoga as an embodied spiritual practice – one that she engages in daily. She views the Yoga mat as a meeting place where we connect with the Source of Life, and as an arena for personal transformation.

Erika’s Slow Flow class, we move through lingering seated poses to deepen flexibility and suppleness, and then shift into flowing sequences to build strength and balance. Throughout the entire practice, our emphasis is on remaining present, and on inhabiting the body with awareness and breath.
